A Smooth and Easy Admissions Process

Admission Requirements

Shear Excellence Hair Academy only admits students who meet the following requirements:

1. Must be at least 16 years of age, this is in line with the Florida State Board of Cosmetology & Barber Board.
2. Have a high school diploma or G.E.D. The following are considered the equivalent of a high school diploma: a GED certificate, a certificate of completion of a home-schooled high school program that is acceptable in the state of Florida, in which homeschooling took place and a self-certification by a student from a foreign country from which a high school transcript cannot be obtained due to current political conditions.
3. An applicant requesting admission must have proof of completion of the twelfth grade or take an entrance examination to attest to tenth-grade reading and math ability. The test is called the Wonderlic ATB (Ability to Benefit) test. A student must achieve a verbal score of no less than 200 and a quantitative score of no less than 210 in the same test administration to pass. Although craftsmanship is not based on academic achievement, a student must have the ability to read orders and perform simple mathematical calculations. (ATB policy ended effective 7/1/2012, per U.S. Department of Education for those students who are seeking Title IV funding to pay for their program. Non-Title IV students will still be able to enroll under the form of the ATB policy as long as they are paying their own way.)
