Types of Financial Aid
Pell Grants are federally funded and awarded based on a student’s Expected Family Contribution (EFC), Cost of Attendance, and Enrollment Status. Here’s what you need to know:
- Eligibility: Determined through the submission of a FAFSA to the Department of Education.
- Repayment: Pell Grants do not need to be repaid.
- Award Amount: The amount can vary for each student, with a maximum of $5,650 per Academic Year (900 hours).
- Credit Impact: This funding does not affect your credit.
- Application: Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) to determine if you qualify.
If you need assistance with your application, our Financial Aid Officer is here to help. For more information about Pell Grants, visit the FAFSA® website
Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants (SEOG) are federally funded grants awarded based on the following criteria:
- Eligibility: Determined through submission of a FAFSA to the Department of Education, based on a student’s Expected Family Contribution, Cost of Attendance, and Enrollment Status.
- Repayment: SEOG grants do not need to be repaid.
- Award Amount: Not affected by other aid sources.
- Availability: Granted on a first-come, first-served basis, starting July 1 each year, with priority given to students with the highest need.
- Funding: Limited funds are allocated to this program each year.
Be sure to apply early to increase your chances of receiving this grant.
Direct Subsidized Loans are available to students based on their financial need, as determined by the FAFSA and the school’s financial aid administrator. Here are the key points:
- Eligibility: Based on demonstrated financial need.
- Interest: Interest-free while the student is enrolled at least half-time, and during authorized grace and deferment periods.
- Repayment: Interest is charged during repayment or forbearance periods.
- Payment Requirements: Students are not required to make payments while enrolled at least half-time, but they may choose to make regular or interest-only payments during this time.
This loan option helps manage educational expenses without the burden of interest accruing while you’re focused on your studies.
Direct Unsubsidized Loans are available to students regardless of their financial need. Key points include:
- Eligibility: Not based on financial need, but determined by the school’s financial aid administrator and the FAFSA.
- Interest: Begins accruing immediately after disbursement.
- Deferral: Interest charges can be deferred during at least half-time enrollment, grace periods, and deferment periods, but will be capitalized (added to the loan balance).
- Repayment: Students are not required to make payments while enrolled at least half-time. However, they have the option to make regular or interest-only payments during this period.
This loan option allows students to cover educational expenses with the flexibility to manage interest accrual according to their financial situation.
Direct Parent PLUS Loans are long-term, low-interest federal loans available to parents of undergraduate students. Key points include:
- Purpose: To supplement other financial aid and help cover the family contribution portion of educational costs.
- Eligibility: Parents at all income levels can apply, subject to credit approval.
- Student Requirements: The student must be enrolled at least half-time in an approved program.
- Creditworthiness: Eligibility is based on the borrower’s creditworthiness.
- Alternative Options: If a parent is denied a PLUS loan due to adverse credit, the dependent student may become eligible for the Unsubsidized Loan Program.
